Brutus Monroe Blog Hop - This One's For You, Mom!

Hello crafty friends! Thanks for stopping by. It's another Wednesday blog hop day for the Brutus Monroe Inspiration Team and this week we're getting ready for Mother's Day! I am the lucky mom to two 4 year old twin girls, and we are hitting that prime Disney princess stage (with a healthy dose of superheroes and cards mixed in!). One of my daughters wears her princess Belle dress nonstop, so when we got this new Happy Rose stamp set, I couldn't help but think of Beauty and the Beast. Brutus Monroe has this awesome bookshelf background stamp and it was perfect for the theme, as Belle is an avid reader! 


I started by stamping the background in Raven ink onto some aqua pigment paper. My intention was originally to do some loose watercoloring, but then I decided I wanted the red rose to stand out against the black and white, so I left it alone. I took a piece of vellum, and used a small bowl to draw pencil lines around the top to round it off, so that it would look like the top of a glass bell jar. I left a tab sticking up at the top to bend over the back of the bookshelf panel, so that the piece of vellum acted like a flap to flip upwards. I folded the tab down onto the back of the bookshelf panel and taped it securely in place. I swiped embossing ink on a scrap piece of Alabaster cardstock and heat embossed Gilded EP across the whole thing. I repeated the process to get a nice thick layer of gold. I used a small circle punch to get the little ball handle for the top of the jar, and then I trimmed down a rectangle of gold to look like the base inside the jar. 


I stamped the rose in Raven detail ink, and colored it with my copics. I also stamped a second rose, and colored the single petal to use for the one that has fallen onto the base. I fussy cut all the pieces, and then hand-drew and cut the stem (and lined it with black marker to match the black-stamped rose and leaves). I glued the rose, stem and petals to the background and moved on to the sentiment. I went back and forth with the sentiment for a while, but decided on the "Thinking of you" on the outside and the "Mom" on the inside because my mom lives across the country from me. So it's a good one for us because I am always thinking of her even though we're far away!
