I am so excited to share this post with you, because I adore both of the companies from this hop.
- HAI Supply has tons of cool embellishments, sequins, jewels, washi tapes, and the focus of this hop, Washi Papers. The papers used today are real Japanese washi papers, and they're just gorgeous! Intricate foiled designs painted on handmade papers. If you've never learned how real washi paper is made, go to YouTube and watch a video, because it's an insanely detailed and labor-intensive process! It was fascinating to me to learn more about them.
- Pear Blossom Press brings us the interactive light-up element, with their EZ Lights! True to the name, the process to add the lights to this card was SUPER easy! I have used the other cardmaking lights in the past, and they were very fussy to work with. Adding the EZ lights from PBP to this card was actually the quickest part of the whole project!
I started this card out by cutting a scrap piece of white cardstock to 8 1/2 x 3 1/2 (the size of the slimline card) and sketching out where I wanted the river and the land to go. I cut the river out of the middle and traced around it on the blue and white wavy washi paper. Since the card is longer than the actual piece of washi paper, I did have to cut two different pieces to cover the whole stretch of card front.
I glued the river pieces onto the black card base first, and then I started cutting the green papers into grass and hill shapes. I adhered those down with glue as well, and then used a black marker to draw lines along the river, just to make it stand out a little more. After die cutting the lanterns from black cardstock, I lined them along the back with red washi papers. At this point I started recording a video clip so you could see how I added the EZ lights from Pear Blossom Press! It was super simple and worked perfectly. Find the video here:

The little lantern dies from Spellbinders "Zen Garden" fit the Japanese theme perfectly with the washi papers!
